The legend behind the logo
Ramelius’ horse logo and name are inspired by a legend from the Rammelsberg Mines in Germany, one of the world’s oldest and longest-operating base metal mines, active from the 10th century until 1988 and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.Â
According to legend, in 968 AD, a knight named Ramm, serving under Emperor Otto the Great, tied his horse Ramelius to a tree while hunting. When he returned, he found the horse had scraped the earth with its hooves, uncovering a rich silver-lead vein, leading to the discovery of the Rammelsberg Mine.Â
This tale closely mirrors the origin of the Norseman goldfields in Western Australia. In 1894, prospectors Lawrence and George Sinclair discovered gold after their horse, Hardy Norseman, scratched the ground with its hooves. The town of Norseman was named in the horse’s honour.Â
This symbolic connection between discovery, perseverance and the role of the horse is embedded in Ramelius Resources’ identity and logo.Â
