Given the coarse, high grade nature of the gold mineralisation coupled with the limited strike extent and the depth of the mineralizing system it has become ineffective to continue exploratory diamond from surface.

Deeper exploratory diamond drilling is completed from underground exploration drill cuddies. Underground drilling was completed to test the plunge projection of the mineralized system at Wattle Dam within Blocks C and D prior to the commitment from the Ramelius Board to extend the mine to 360 metres below surface. Better intersections from the underground diamond drilling include:

The Company has made significant inroads into its understanding of the controls to gold mineralization at Wattle Dam, in what can only be described as a “bonanza high grade” structurally controlled gold deposit. The Company is applying detailed hyperspectral logging techniques to analyze individual mineral spectra and better define haloes of alteration and pathfinder mineralogy as vectors to high grade mineralization.

Ramelius intend to extend this work to assist in deeper targeting of high grade ore shoots over the 10km strike between Eagles Nest and the Wattle Dam Gold Mine during 2012.
